This just blew my mind and I’ve never seen forgiveness in this way.

See, this is important. A lot of people see forgiveness as purely for the sake of the person they’re forgiving, and sometimes that is the case! But sometimes it’s just so you can let go and move on with your life without residual anger weighing you down. 

I agree with the fictional monkey from the Lion King.
